Traffic Safety

The Engineering Department performs traffic studies, reviews motor vehicle accident reports, maintains records, conducts traffic counts, and makes recommendations to City Administration and/or Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

Traffic Control Devices

Citizen requests for new traffic control devices (traffic signals, traffic signs) are investigated. The department conducts studies and plans layouts for new devices when justified. To make a request, contact the office during regular business hours. Please note: Traffic signals on state numbered routes are maintained by TxDOT. Report signal light malfunctions or other problems by calling 972-962-3848 between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. After business hours, please report problems to the Police Department at 469-474-2700.

Visibility Problems

The Engineering Department investigates visibility problems on the public right-of-way. Large bushes, trees, fences, or other obstacles placed too close to the right-of-way can create safety hazards by interfering with visibility at intersections or along city streets. Drivers are encouraged to report such visibility problems to the Engineering office. We will determine if the obstruction can be trimmed or removed for safer driving conditions.

Street Lights

The department also looks into residents' requests for a street light. Visit the Street Improvements page for more information.

To report a street light outage, call Oncor Electric Delivery at 888-313-4747.
